There are many zoos around Tokyo, some which have special types of animals and some which have the standard ones that you would expect at any zoo. There is the Ueno Xoo, the Tama Zoo, Tokyo Sea Life Park, Inokashira Park Zoo and The ohshima Park Zoo. Depending on what you want to see, and the proximity to where you are, they are all accessible through public transit and have some really amazing animals to see.

Ueno Zoo

Description The Ueno Zoo is the oldest zoo in Tokyo. It has grown and been renovated and expanded several times over the many decades of existence. It is a zoo that is located in the heart of the city, amongst the chaos, a natural habitat for recreation. It has not only a wildlife conservatory, but also houses an educational center for school groups. It also aids in repopulating species which are endangered. It also has places that are purely for recreation.

The Tama Zoo

Description The Tama Zoo is located in Hino City. Over 129 acres are filled with animals in their natural habitat. Only located one hour from the city central of Tokyo, it can be accessed easily by train. There are various exhibits that have the most amazing creatures, ones that you won’t see at any other zoo. Not only having those animals which are indigenous to Japan they also have those which come from places far, far away.

Inokashira Park Zoo

Description The Inokashira Park Zoo is located in the suburbs of Tokyo. Unlike the other zoos which are located out of the way, this one is right where the action is. It has animals which are indigenous to Japan and many that are found in everyday life living in their natural habitat. There are also botanical gardens and statues to enjoy. On site there is also the Seibo Kitamura Museum and it offers a serene landscape that makes you feel like you are hours from the city.
