Hanami

The Hanami festivals are those which are held to celebrate the beauty of the flowers located in Japan. They are celebrated one a year from the months of March to May. Located around the Okinawa Island, they are announced through the weather bureau who determines the best time to see the cherry blossoms and to celebrate their majesty. Since the blossoms only last a week or two, they are carefully timed and planned around their arrival.

    Description A public park which used to be the property of feudal lord, it is one of the largest and prettiest parks in Tokyo for visitors and residence alike. Close to public transportation it is a haven in the midst of city. It has tree lined pathways and the serenity you may be looking for to get away from the bustle of the city. Open to the public for free, during the months of March and April when the cherry blossoms are in season, there isn’t a more spectacular sight to behold.

    Ueno Park

    Description One of the largest and most famous parks in Tokyo there is no shortage of things to do. There are so many attractions such as temples and shrines, that there is never a dull moment. Also located in the park is the famous Ueno Zoo which is home to not only the creatures of Japan which are unique, but also those animals from around the globe. A gem in the midst of a city, something you definitely should go see.

    Inokashira Park

    Description This is possibly the most unassuming park of them all in Tokyo. It is home to scenic ponds that feed into the Kanda river which is a breathtaking spectacle. You can take a boat out on the river, or just walk the edge. There are also things to do like the Ghibli Museum tour, or the zoo, fun for the whole family, it is definitely worth a day trip. Close to public transportation makes it easy to access. A peaceful getaway, it is something to not miss.

    Chidorigafuchi

    Description The greatest place to get a glimpse of the cherry blossoms when they are in full bloom. In March you can go to the Chidorigafuchi park and rent a boat or just sit out for some sun on the pier. Close to public transportation, and railways, it is easy to get to and a great break from the everyday. There are other attractions like ancient shrines, and architectural marvels to view while there. Take a day trip and see the beauty of the blossom trees.

    Sumida Park

    Description Looking for a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city Sumida Park offers you a chance to escape. During the months of march, it is a sight of beauty with the cherry blossom trees in full bloom. Take a run along the jogging path, or stand at the waterfront’s edge. Rent a boat, or just sit and relax, the beauty of the city is on one side and nature’s beauty on the other.
