Description Aiiku Hospital is a specialist healthcare centre for mothers and children with 118 beds for inpatients. It’s where thousands of Japanese children are born each year. It’s located in the Minato-Ku district of the city and has a kindergarten and nursery room. The hospital aims to support mothers and children from labour until adulthood. It deals mainly with dermatology and maternal health, but it also has a mental health ward and a surgical department where surgeons perform both basic and advanced procedures.

Description St Luke’s International Hospital is a hospital in the Japanese capital originally founded by a visiting American doctor. After surviving World War II with minimal damage, it opened to treat both Japanese and foreign patients. There are facilities for inpatients, but it also has a specialist healthcare department for more difficult cases. There are ambulance services for transporting patients to the hospital. It practices both evidence-based and holistic medicine. Patients can find the hospital in the Chuo-ko area of Tokyo.

Description The Japanese Red Cross Medical Centre is the Red Cross’s main hospital in the Japanese capital. It deals with all manner of injuries and illnesses whilst specialising mainly in outpatient care. It’s only ten minutes from Shibuya Station and is known as the Nisseki Medical Centre in Japanese. Patients can book an appointment with a GP for a consultation for a nominal fee, and there are also inpatient areas for people who need further evaluation.

Keio University Hospital

Description Keio University Hospital has a reputation as one of the most well-known and sophisticated hospitals in all of Japan. Keio University teaches many of its medical students within the hospital through shadowing and patient rounds. As well as having 1,000 beds for inpatients, there’s a medical research laboratory and medical information divisions. It’s located in the Minato ward of Tokyo and is the 3rd building on the Shiba Kyoritsu campus. Since 1920, it’s trained thousands of Japanese doctors.

Tokyo Medical University Hospital

Description The Tokyo Medical University Hospital is in the prestigious Shinjuku district of Tokyo and is one of several tertiary healthcare facilities across Japan which has affiliated itself with the Tokyo Medical University. It’s a history dating back to 1931 and currently has 1,091 beds with 1,800 trained and experienced medical staff. It’s recently moved to the centre of Tokyo where it’s located in one of the many city’s skyscrapers. Throughout its history, it’s shared its medical research with the World Health Organization (WHO).

It specialises in internal medicine, as a general medicine clinic, and it also performs many types of surgery.
